Congratulations to the Smiths News team at our Newport depot, who have received Severnside Recycling’s Champions Award for 2010
These awards are given to individuals and organisations who have achieved excellence in sustainable recycling and waste management, through working with Severnside. The Newport staff showed a particular enthusiasm for recycling materials at their depot, which impressed Severnside.
Recycling has been increased at all Smiths News sites across the country and currently the company is recycling up to 70% of waste. This cuts down on waste going to landfill.
Kevin Clarke, Newport manager said: “It’s a credit to all our staff that the introduction of new recycling processes and procedures has not affected the packing operation at all. I’m proud of the determination and energy the Newport team have shown during the implementation of these new methods.”
Mark Charlton, chair of Corporate Responsibility said: “It’s fantastic to see staff taking their responsibility seriously in the workplace. It’s important that we contribute as individuals as well as a company. Well done to Newport and I would encourage all depots to think about how we can reduce our waste and recycle even more.”
