As the leading newspaper and magazine wholesaler, a responsible approach to our marketplace makes good business sense.

Smiths News has responsible policies for the supply of newspapers and magazines
We work with publishers and retailers to ensure our policies support a vibrant marketplace. We are mindful too that newspapers and magazines have an important social dimension bringing news and information to communities across the UK.
Supply to all communities
For many years the supply of newspapers was governed by the National Newspaper Code of Practice. This has been repealed from October 2009.
In response we have issued a guarantee to continue supplying all customers, regardless of their size or location. What’s more, we relaxed the requirements for receiving supplies, and made it easier for very small customers to share supplies and reduce their costs.
Responsible policies
Smiths News has responsible policies for the supply of newspapers and magazines.
- We support the Industry Service Standards Agreement (ISSA)
- We respond quickly to complaints
- We support the industry ‘fast track’ restitution process which compensates retailers should errors result financial loss
- We encourage retailers and publishers to minimise waste
- We have clear guidelines for the supply of products and support retailers with display advice as needed
Industry regulation
We recognise that newspapers and magazines are special products that require high levels of efficiency and service across the supply chain.
We play a full role in the industry’s self-regulation body, the Joint Industry Group and support industry initiatives to improve efficiency and service.
