Smiths News Premier Club £2,000 giveaway – winners announced
Paul Boxall, manager of Pelynt Post Office and Spar shop, near Looe in Cornwall, has been announced the £1,000 winner of Smiths News Premier Club’s summer promotion, in conjunction with Panini and Marketforce.
The competition, which was for independent retailers, focused on the children’s sector, and promoted titles included Bliss, Scooby Doo, Disney Girl and Marvel Heroes. The winner was the retailer with the highest percentage uplift on their own sales, rather than copies sold, so every store had an equal opportunity to win.
Paul Boxall and the staff at Pelynt managed a fantastic 150% increase in sales and were presented with their £1,000 cheque by Smiths News territory manager Mike Fowler.
Paul, said: “It was a great surprise and a very welcome one, to be told we had won the Panini Independent Retailer of Summer 2010. Our territory manager popped in with the cheque on his rounds. We always try to keep our magazines in good order and make recommendations to our customers and Premier Club is very good at helping out with promotions. Now we just need to decide what to spend the £1,000 on!”
There were four runners-up in the competition, who each received a prize cheque for £250. They were:
Mr Gerald’s Supermarket, 59 Warren Street, Dawlish Warren , Devon
Walkers, 10 High Street, Stamford, Lincs
VSV Ltd, 122-126 Jubilee Crescent, Coventry
M J Rawlings, 3 Priorswood Place, Taunton, Somerset
Paul Weaving, Group Circulation Manager, Marketforce, had this to say about the competition: “Independent retailers are core to the Panini magazine and collectables portfolio. In Summer 2010, Panini ran a sales incentive through Premier Club stores across the magazine portfolio to drive sales over this key period. We are delighted with the results and would like to congratulate the winners and thank all participating stores for their support.”
Luke Simons, Smiths News Premier Club, said: “We’re really pleased that this joint venture with Panini and Marketforce has been so well-received. We’re always on the lookout for new ways to help our retailers promote their magazines and this one has certainly hit the mark.”
