    02:00-05:00 – Starting the day

    Magazines are loaded on to delivery vehicles. Publishers begin to deliver newspapers to Smiths News’s warehouses. Stock is checked and despatched to the packing teams, who pack each customer consignment. Newspapers are loaded and customer deliveries begin.

    04:30-07:00 – On the road

    Newspapers and magazines are delivered to retailers. Each delivery is scanned on arrival at the shop to record its delivery time. Drivers collect returned copies from the previous day (on some rounds, returns may be collected later in the day).

    07:00-11:00 – Newspaper returns scanned

    Drivers return to the warehouses. Newspapers and magazines are separated as they are unloaded from vehicles. Newspaper returns scanning begins. Every consignment of unsold newspapers is scanned.

    07:00-17:00 – Magazine returns scanned

    Magazine returns begin. Every consignment of unsold magazines arrive from the publisher throughout the day. Magazine packing begins for staff on the day shift.

    06:00 - 15:00 - Customer Service

    Customer service teams are ready to help, take calls for order alterations, extra copies, claims and queries.
    08:00 - 17:00 - Sales centres manage copy allocation for publishers and retailers, optimising sales and availability on newspapers and magazines

    18:00-02:00 – Into the night

    Magazine deliveries continue from publishers, mainly of time sensitive publications. Magazine packing starts for staff on the twilight shift. Magazines are trunked to newspaper locations as necessary.
