We are the best news wholesaler in the UK. We are consistently ranked number one in 20 of 22 industry categories. Customer satisfaction is a priority and retailers rate our overall service at 7.5 out of 10.
Smith News has the capability to provide a full end to end distribution service. We are investing heavily in our network infrastructure and distribution services to further improve efficiencies and deliver benefits to publishers and retailers.
We currently track deliveries to retailers using scanning technology. Barcodes placed at retailer’s stores allow the scanning of actual delivery times at every retailer and provide an accurate view of the days distribution.
Distribution to retail is measured via a ‘Required Delivery Time (RDT)’ key performance indicator. Industry-benchmarking data demonstrates that our performance in this area is best in class.
We submit distribution performance data to the ANMW National Distribution Monitor three times a day (9am, 11.30am and 13.00pm) to ensure up-to-date information is provided.
We operate to an agreed Newspaper cut off time in each location. Newspaper supplies received after that cut off time will be distributed as part of our re run process. Houses have tailored re run contingency plans to ensure that these re run operations effect a timely and appropriate distribution.
Returns are collected from each individual retailer a minimum of 5 days per week. Scanning and Tracking technology will provide fast, accurate returns information by edition if required in time to order regulate the next day’s editions.
Smiths News will administer any retail-handling fee for sections that require insertion. Retail bulletins will be affected where separate sections are being delivered given that this is not normal practice for the retailer. Our retail terms and conditions make insertion a pre requisite for payment.
