Kelly raises over £4000 for charity Shine
A couple of weeks ago Newport’s Kelly Leech set off on a testing walk across some tough terrain, all in the name of charity.
The walk was to raise money for the charity Shine, who have provided great support to Kelly’s brother since he was born with Spina Bifida. Kelly, Newspaper Operations Manager explains:
“My brother Darrell, who I am lucky enough to call one of my closest friends, was born with Spina Bifida and struggles every day with the things we all take for granted. In constant pain, Darrell struggles to lead a ‘normal’ life.”
Determined to give something back, Kelly and Darrell walked part of the Wye Valley and Offa’s Dyke from Chepstow to Tintern – raising an incredible £4000 and counting for Shine.
“It was a massive challenge, but we conquered the hills by working as a team,” Kelly told us. “The youngest walker was my son Riley, who is just 4, and the oldest was Darrell’s mother-in-law at 61 – so some age gap!”
Shine provides specialist support from before birth and throughout the lives of anyone living with Spina Bifida, as well as to the families and carers.
