Smiths News’ CEO discusses company’s future plans in TV interview

Smiths News CEO Jon Bunting was interviewed by Edison TV this week – Edison Group’s platform to showcase its clients – exploring the ways in which the company is embracing an exciting future.  

During the interview, Jon discusses the competitive advantages of Smiths News’ strong market position and what it means to be a market leader, with a 56% share of the newspaper and magazine distribution market.  

He explores the learnings of Smiths News’ acquisition and subsequent disposal of Tuffnells in 2020, and details the journey that the management team and company has been on since to regain the trust of its shareholders and banks – a journey that has so far been a successful and positive one, as demonstrated by its recent announcement to the City that it is set to trade ahead of expectations this year.  

Jon reflects on the future of the newspaper and magazine industry, which continues to be in long-term decline, and explains the ways in which Smiths News is working with its publishing partners to future proof the supply chain in this environment, while reinvesting its strong cash flows outside of its core business.
