Smiths News PLC changes name to Connect Group PLC
The parent company of Smiths News has announced it will change its name from Smiths News PLC to Connect Group PLC on 22 April 2014.
The change in name only applies to Smiths News PLC and not the Smiths News operating business. In addition to the change in name three divisions will also be created, Connect News & Media, Connect Books and Connect Education & Care. As of 22 April 2014, Smiths News will be part of Connect News & Media, a division of Connect Group PLC.
The Smiths News operating business will keep its name and remain the UK’s largest newspaper and magazine wholesaler. Its customers will see no change to the day-to-day running of Smiths News. Jonathan Bunting, Managing Director, Smiths News said:
“I would like to assure our customers and suppliers that their service will be unaffected. The name change only affects Smiths News PLC. We have a strong brand with a prestigious heritage which goes back over 200 years, and for us, it’s business as usual.”
Connect Group PLC reflects how much bigger and diverse the Group has become; it’s no longer solely operating in the newspaper and magazines market, but a specialist distributor operating across different sectors.
