Staff ‘Link-Up’ for first ever Group Football Tournament
Colleagues from across the Group took part in Smiths News PLC’s first ever football tournament on Sunday 29 September at Kembrey Park Swindon, as part of the Group’s Community Link-Up programme.
Twenty six teams put their best players forward to compete for the top spot in the Futsal Tournament - an indoor version of 5-a side football. The event included special guest Dan Magness, a record breaking football freestyler, who was invited to the tournament to showcase his skills and teach the players some of his world famous free styling tricks.
All of the teams who took part were given the opportunity to play against one another and enjoy a fun day out, with the added bonus of getting to ‘Link-Up’ with colleagues from different parts of the Group.
Jonathan Bunting, Managing Director at Smiths News, hosted the event and commented: “Our first ever Community Link-Up Football Tournament was a huge success – it was a really competitive but fun day, and it was great to see so many colleagues from all aspects of the business linking up from across the Group. Events like this are important as they offer our staff the opportunity to meet their colleagues in an informal environment and to establish contacts with colleagues they may not have met before.
We’ve had some great feedback on the event and have already put a date in the diary for next year.”
There was an award ceremony after the tournament, with the winning team from The Consortium receiving the Futsal Champions 2013 trophy.
Kevin Davies, from Smiths News Birmingham, said: “It was really nice meeting all of the different teams from the Smiths News Group and great to put some names to faces. Whilst we did not actually win many games, all three teams had a wonderful day, and look forward to the next sporting event.”
