Milena was presented with her award on 12 May at the London Marriott Grosvenor Square hotel, where 240 guests from across the newspaper and magazine publishing, distribution and retail sectors gathered to congratulate winners across 17 award categories. The judges said: “Milena has a really impressive career growth journey, demonstrating drive, ambition and a willingness to keep learning.”
Milena added: “I am so grateful for the many opportunities that have helped me achieve my goals and this truly amazing award. A huge thank you to those who nominated me and to all my amazing colleagues. I will treasure the night and award for ever.”
When Milena joined Smiths News in 2014 as a temp scanning returned magazines, it was her first job after moving to the UK from Poland, at a time when she was still settling into a new country and learning to speak English. Through hard work and determination, and a willingness to go the extra mile, her career has progressed quickly.
Her ongoing pursuit of personal development has seen Milena attending the company’s Leadership Academy while taking on responsibility for two departments and more than 50 colleagues across a six-day working week. In addition to her current role as Birmingham Warehouse Manager, Milena is a key member of the Senior Operations Team.
“Understanding Milena’s career journey and what she has achieved since arriving in this country makes this award all the more deserved,” said Wayne Foster, Birmingham group General Manager. “We couldn’t be prouder of Milena and seeing her recognised on the night was amazing. Her dedication to Smiths, her operation and her people is evident through every aspect of her role. Being recognised in this way is a true inspiration to others to follow in her footsteps. Congratulations, Milena, from everyone in the Birmingham Operations depot!”
