All thanks to its new partnership with waste services provider Veolia.

As the UK’s leading newspaper and magazine wholesaler, Smiths News is committed to its environmental responsibilities – and to delivering its ambitious recycling and waste diversion targets to minimise its impact on the planet.

Cheryl Smith, Soft Services & Environmental Manager, explained: “We had already done a lot of work to ensure that the majority of our waste (81%) was diverted from landfill, but we wanted to push this further and achieve 100% waste landfill diversion.

“So we set out to find a new national waste management partner, who could guarantee to deliver this across our 38 sites, including our head office. By working with Veolia, we have managed to achieve just that – 100% landfill diversion for all Smiths News generated waste.”

Veolia is the UK leader in environmental solutions with a comprehensive range of waste services designed to preserve scarce resources and build the circular economy.

Helen Bohane, Senior Category Procurement Manager, explained, “We will now be working with Veolia to drive recycling improvements, innovations and operational efficiencies across the estate to enhance our environmental credentials even further.”
